Machine Inside Of A Chip: How Sprite_TM Built The FPGA Game Boy Badge

Kids of the 1990’s would call you a liar if you told them that within thirty years you’d go to a conference and be handed a Super Nintendo Entertainment System to wear around your neck. But that’s what happened with the badge Jeroen Domburg, aka [Sprite_TM], designed for the 2019 Hackaday Superconference. It’s built in the Game Boy form factor, complete with a cartridge slot, beautiful screen, and the familiar button layout. But there’s so much more here, like the HDMI port on the bottom and the ability to completely reconfigure the device by dropping a binary file onto it over USB. Of course what makes this possible is the FPGA at the heart of the design. The story of how the badge was developed is shared in great detail during Sprite’s Supercon talk. The timeline, the hardware choices, and the oopses along the way make for a great story. But what you really don’t want to miss is how he built the machine inside of the FPGA — the collection of Verilog code known as “gateware” that brings together the System-on-a-Chip (SoC). From his delight at being able to spawn more processor cores by changing a single variable, to the fascinating SNES-inspired graphics subsystem, the inside s...

Chongqing Changan Automobile forecasted to suffer 2019 net loss of over RMB2.4 billion

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. (Changan) reported it is expected to suffer an annual loss of RMB2.4 billion-2.9 billion for the year of 2019, a year-on-year slump of 452.56%-526.01% from a net profit of RMB680,728,400 attributable to shareholders for the previous year. As for the reason leading to the huge profit drop, much of the blame has been laid on the “sales volume slid”, according to Changan’s statement. Last year, the Chongqing-based automaker saw its full-year sales fell 15.2% over a year ago to 1,759,971 units. Among five major subsidiaries, only Hefei Changan closed its 2019 with a rising sales performance. Notably, the sales of the main profit contributor Changan Ford were more than halved over the year-ago period. To put sales back on track, the Sino-U.S. joint venture is speeding up the roll-out of new products. After three new models—the all-new Focus Active, the all-new Taurus and the new Edge ST/ST-Line—hit the market in last August, Changan Ford showcased the strategic model, the all-new Ford Escape, at the Auto Guangzhou 2019. Although the performance throughout the whole year plunged, Changan Ford gained a tiny growth of 0.7%...

Tsitsipas progresses in Rotterdam, Fognini out | News

(Reuters) – Second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas clawed his way back from a set and a break down to beat Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz 6-7(2) 6-3 6-1 and reach the last-16 of the Rotterdam Open on Tuesday. Canadian teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime outlasted Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff to win 6-3 1-6 6-3 and advance, while Italy’s Fabio Fognini was upset 6-3 6-3 by Russia’s Karen Khachanov. Tsitsipas reacted well to going 2-0 down in the second set, fighting back strongly to beat Hurkacz, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday. The Greek big-hitter, who was knocked out in the third round of the Australian Open, has now beaten Hurkacz five times out of six, although this was another close encounter between the pair. Tsitsipas needed a medical timeout to deal with a shoulder problem after making unforced errors in a poor tiebreak, and Hurkacz quickly stole a march in the second set before Tsitsipas launched his comeback. The world number six broke to go 3-2 up and went on to take the set in 46 minutes, before dominating in the decisive third. Auger-Aliassime, 19, who had his breakthrough season last year when he climbed up to 17th in the rankings, nearly threw it aw...

Mitac Precision Technology: The RHCM leader who has demonstrated achievements in developing bio-based materials

With the consumer market changing faster and faster, the focus of electronic products has been gradually shifting from computing speeds and functionalities to design of the appearances, especially in an age where smartphones and tablet PCs are storming the market and becoming an integral part of many people’s life. The fashion-factor of product appearance is now an important consideration when consumers decide whether they will make a purchase or not. The conventional injection molding technology that is commonly used in the production of many components can only control the mold at temperatures around a preset level. The result is, when removed from the mold after being formed, the finished product’s glossiness is rather unsatisfactory. Its welding lines are also rather obvious. Against this backdrop, many companies have started investing in the more advanced Rapid Heat Cycle Molding (RHCM) process, hoping to reduce the time needed for post-molding processing, to minimize the damage to the environment, and to raise the efficiency of the production lines. Among the many companies, Taiwan-based Mitac Precision Technology Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Getac Technology Corp...
