It’s not often that you find a pair of shoes that are stylish, comfortable, and waterproof.

It’s not often that you find a pair of shoes that are stylish, comfortable, and waterproof. So when footwear brand Vessi launched its Cityscape Sneakers last year, I took notice. Especially after hearing they amassed a waitlist of 23,000 people eager to get their hands on the coveted style.  As soon as I had the chance, I knew I had to put these sneakers to the test. Not only do they tick all the above boxes, but they also boast special features like antibacterial insoles and a durable sole that provides excellent traction. In addition to their cushioned interior and incredibly light weight, these shoes are made with a breathable four-way stretch knit fabric that keeps you warm in winter and cool in the summer.  I’ve tried other sneakers that claim to be fully waterproof in the past, but this is the only pair that have actually kept my feet completely dry even during the biggest of rainstorms. What’s more, they are so comfortable I’m able to wear them all day without any foot pain and they are stylish enough to wear with everything else in my closet. After only a few weeks of use, the Cityscapes quickly became my go-to travel shoe, and apparently I’m not the only one. Acc...

9 Stylish Luggage Sets That Look Much More Expensive Than They Are

Nothing quite says “seasoned traveler” like a great set of luggage. Not only does a matching set help make your travel ensemble look more polished, but it also has a way of making you feel like you have your life together — even if you are always running late to catch that flight.   Frequent fliers know they also come in handy when you’re trying to collect your luggage on the baggage carousel, because locating two or three suitcases that look alike is much easier than spotting mismatched bags. Plus, suitcases sold in sets usually nest inside of one another to help make storing them that much easier. The best sets feature high-quality luggage in different shapes and sizes, so you’ll be covered for every length and type of trip imaginable. Fans of quick weekend getaways should check out two-piece sets that include a weekender bag, while travelers who prefer to take extended vacations or often travel with family members should consider a three-piece hardshell set that’s big enough to hold all the essentials needed for a longer trip. If you think you’ll have to spend thousands of dollars on a sleek set of luggage, though, think again. We’ve found nine high-quality sets that look mu...

IPP REVIEW–The International North-South Transport Corridor

One of Eurasia’s largest connectivity projects is taking off. The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a major transit route designed to facilitate the carriage of goods from Mumbai in India to Helsinki in Finland, using Iranian ports and railroads, which Tehran plans to connect to those of Azerbaijan and Russia and its Baltic ports. Those links could give Russia rail connectivity to both the Persian Gulf and the Indian rail network. Russia, Iran and India founded and laid the groundwork for the project between 2000 and 2002. Subsequently, other countries joined the project. They included Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Bulgaria. With countries in the Caucuses, South Europe, West Asia and Central Asia joining the INSTC, it is envisaged as one of Eurasia’s most important connectivity ventures. The INSTC is not and cannot be a counterpoise to China’s Belt and Road Imitative (BRI). Apart from India, all the countries involved in the INSTC are on the BRI. They also have far stronger trading ties with China than with India. Indeed, the INSTC was conceived long before Xi Jinping had arrived on the world scene as China...

Vector Smartwatch review: a classy smart wristwatch for the Windows 10 Mobile crowd

Vector’s own take on what a smartwatch should be is an interesting one, if only because it removes a lot of the “smart” functionality in favor of longer battery and a more classic design. This isn’t a bad thing of course, and over the last month of using a Vector watch, I’ve come to realize that. Outside a few syncing issues, my Vector watch has done basically everything I would want a smartwatch to do: notifications, a basic app store, and a few other Vector-unique features. This is a smartwatch for those who want the added benefit of being able to count steps, see notifications on their wrist and take advantage of basic smartwatch functionality, not for those who are looking for a full-on smartwatch experience. You can imagine my surprise when I heard there was an actual smartwatch company out there who were actively supporting Windows 10 Mobile. After news broke that Microsoft had halted plans on a Microsoft Band 3, I started looking at alternatives to satisfy my need for a wearable. I’m a simple man: I want my watch to be able to show me notifications as they come in, count my steps, and perhaps a few other additional things. And to tell t...

Choosing the best plywood for wet area applications

MAXI Plywood clears the common misconception that marine plywood is the ‘only’ plywood capable of withstanding exposure to moisture. While marine plywood is recommended for any plywood application where the timber will be directly immersed in water for a period of time as in boat building and other marine activities, MAXI Plywood advises that birch plywood offers a more functional alternative for design applications requiring general moisture resistance. Birch plywood is a suitable alternative in wet area applications. Specifically designed with structural strength for greater impact resistance as well as to absorb the effects of water movement and pressure, marine plywood is manufactured to the very highest standard with both ply faces being A grade veneer and totally defect-free. Examples include Hoop Pine Plywood meeting Australian Standard AS/NZS2272; or Pink Marine Ply meeting British Standard BS1088. MAXI Birch is manufactured from premium B/BB grade Northern European Birch timber, a cold climate timber featuring close growth rings to provide exceptional long-lasting strength and durability for the core and veneer ply layers. MAXI Plywood specialises in birch plywood sheet...

USA Luge athletes look to improve the finish with advanced manufacturing

Tucker West prepares to take off from the starting position. Advanced manufacturing technology is being applied to sled production, and USA Luge has high hopes that can lead to more medals at the Olympics and on the World Cup circuit. That’s been the case over the last 10 years as it has developed a much stronger relationship with an expert in metal finishing, Norton, a brand of Saint-Gobain Abrasives. Longtime supporters of the team, Norton signed on as a primary sponsor in 2009, and the level of technical assistance was taken to a new level. USA luge athletes weren’t simply getting more abrasives to use in prepping their sleds for races and working to recondition sleds between race seasons, they were going to get a crash course in advanced manufacturing. The results have been pretty impressive so far. After winning medals only in doubles luge competition at the Olympics (Gordy Sheer’s and Chris Thorpe’s silver medal and Mark Grimmette’s and Brian Martin’s bronze medal at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and Grimmette’s and Martin’s silver medal and Thorpe’s and Clay Ives’ bronze medal at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah), the U.S. has captured two medals in singles...
