eSUN’s 3D printinted insoles system bring revolution to the customized insole manufacturing

Although it may seem strange to some, customized insoles is a big industry since many people face orthopedical problems that require custom shoes and insoles. Right now, most custom insoles are manufactured with traditional methods using CNC machining that makes production cumbersome and expensive. There are also orthotists that make custom insoles by hand but these have a long manufacturing cycle and cannot be mass-produced. Since CNC machining produces large material waste and requires expensive equipment, large floor space, and complicated operation, custom insoles are hard to become popular and widely available. Aiming to make customized insoles widely available, eSUN has successfully developed 3D printing materials and 3D printers for customized insole mass production, creating the first medical insole 3D printing system in China. Though the new printing system, they greatly improved the efficiency, productivity, quality and cost of similar systems. What’s more, they’ve applied for patented technology that uses 3D foot scanning to obtain user foot data and applies high soft 3D printing material and iSUN3D FLX printer to print a pair of insoles that are completely suitable f...

All 2,493 items targeted by China’s tariffs in US trade war — Quartz

China’s latest tariff retaliation, announced today, will hit some $60 billion in US exports, including hundreds of agricultural, mining, and manufactured products, threatening jobs and profits at companies around the United States.  Before the trade war starts in earnest, China bought about 17% of US agricultural exports and was a major market for other goods, from Maine lobster to Boeing aircraft. It has been the largest market for Apple iPhones since 2016. Since the escalation of tariffs, though, China has stopped buying soybeans and lobsters, and Apple warned it would miss its expected Christmas holiday sales figures because of trade tensions. In addition to the 25% tariffs below, Beijing also added 20% tariffs on 1,078 US products, 10% tariffs on 974 US products, and 5% tariffs on 595 US products (all links in Chinese). The list was translated from China’s ministry of finance press release using Google translate, and may be inexact in spots. Quartz also rearranged some items on the list to group them into categories, and they may not be in the order of their “harmonized tariff schedule” codes.  Steel Wire Products, Metal Wire, Wire Mesh, Steel Bar, Coil Nails – Five-St...

Socialite, fashion designer, and artist Gloria Vanderbilt has passed away at the age of 95. According

Socialite, fashion designer, and artist Gloria Vanderbilt has passed away at the age of 95. According to CNN, Vanderbilt died with family and friends by her side. Her son, CNN’s Anderson Cooper, remembered his mother in a statement this morning. “Gloria Vanderbilt was an extraordinary woman, who loved life, and lived it on her own terms,” Cooper said. “She was a painter, a writer and designer but also a remarkable mother, wife, and friend. She was 95 years old, but ask anyone close to her, and they’d tell you: She was the youngest person they knew—the coolest and most modern.” Over the years, Vanderbilt’s fascinating, privileged and often challenging life, including the loss of her son Carter at the age of 23, was widely chronicled. She was the great-great-granddaughter of railroad and shipping magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt and the custody battle between her aunt, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, and her mother was called the trial of the century. Vanderbilt found success in the 1970s with a pioneering line of designer denim, and she was also known as a poet, model, and actress. She had an vibrant sense of personal style and lived in a series of much-pho...

UV-B–induced forest sterility: Implications of ozone shield failure in Earth’s largest extinction

Although Siberian Trap volcanism is considered a primary driver of the largest extinction in Earth history, the end-Permian crisis, the relationship between these events remains unclear. However, malformations in fossilized gymnosperm pollen from the extinction interval suggest biological stress coinciding with pulsed forest decline. These grains are hypothesized to have been caused by enhanced ultraviolet-B (UV-B) irradiation from volcanism-induced ozone shield deterioration. We tested this proposed mechanism by observing the effects of inferred end-Permian UV-B regimes on pollen development and reproductive success in living conifers. We find that pollen malformation frequencies increase fivefold under high UV-B intensities. Surprisingly, all trees survived but were sterilized under enhanced UV-B. These results support the hypothesis that heightened UV-B stress could have contributed not only to pollen malformation production but also to deforestation during Permian-Triassic crisis intervals. By reducing the fertility of several widespread gymnosperm lineages, pulsed ozone shield weakening could have induced repeated terrestrial biosphere destabilization and food web collapse ...

A woman in Fishkill, N.Y., is claiming she found what appeared to be a “doorknob” in her Taco Bell order last week. Saint, who originally thought the foreign object was a “doorknob,” found out later it was actually a “nacho cheese handle,” that had somehow made it into her food. (Eve Saint) Eve Saint claims she ordered nachos from the Tex-Mex chain on the Fourth of July, but when she got home and unwrapped her meal, there was an extra item inside. Saint, who originally thought the foreign object was a “doorknob,” found out later it was actually a “nacho cheese handle,” that had somehow made it into her food. “I found out its the pump of a cheese dispenser. They hung up on me and told me I was lying then offered me a free nachos,” Saint confirmed to Hudson Valley Post in a message. In a photo Saint shared on Facebook last Friday, the handle is seen dressed in the nacho toppings, suggesting that it accidentally was placed in the meal before the sauces were added. Saint told the Hudson Valley Post she had to c...

Target’s public breastfeeding policy + nursing rooms are amazing

Who would have thought Target could get any better? Apparently the folks in charge of store design and policy. While moms in America continue to face pushback for simply breastfeeding their babies in public, Target has taken an amazing stance on the issue. Through its policies and remodel plans that include dedicated nursing rooms, Target is sending an important message to mamas: Whether you want to nurse in full view of everyone in housewares or prefer to feed your baby in a private spot, Target’s got your back. We love Target’s nursing policy, which straight up states that moms rock (we do) and mamas can feed wherever they need to in the store. “At Target, you are free to nurse wherever and whenever you like while you shop because we think #momsrock. But, if you would like a comfy (or more private) spot to nurse or change a diaper, please ask our Fitting Room Attendant about our Nursing Room!” reads the sign, which was posted in Target stores and shared online by a happy shopper. Moms in the comments section of the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook page are attesting to how Target lives into this policy, swapping stories about how supportive team member...
